I started my teaching career by volunteering to teach writing in an all-male maximum security prison in New York through the Bard Prison Initiative; that experience was the beginning of my journey as a social justice educator.  As a high school English teacher for over a decade in Newburgh, I am wedded to working to make our community a better place.

In short, I am a wife, a proud aunt, a dog rescuer, a person who has been rescued by my rescued dogs, a hiker, a four time (phew!) cancer survivor, a runner, a tattoo addict, a vegetarian, an advocate for my profession, my fellow teachers and my students, a Fulbright alumna, a friend, a writer, and a happy traveler.

Together with Mr. Rothman and Mrs. Hesse, I run Global to Local, our school’s global service learning program.
